Meeting the Need for Speed in Steel Construction

If you work in construction — especially if you’re a building owner or developer — you’re probably feeling the need for speed. Project timelines have gotten longer over the years, due to the shortage of skilled labor and the lack of technological advancement across the industry. But that’s all about to change.

The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) has set a new goal: to complete the construction of new steel buildings and bridges 50% faster by the end of 2025. The Need for Speed initiative helps engineers, architects and builders work together using the latest innovations to gain efficiency at every stage of construction — from design to fabrication and erection. As a result, everyone involved sees revenue faster.

The initiative is already seeing results such as these:

  • 10 months to erect an 850 ft. tall building
  • 5 weeks to frame a six-story building
  • 70% reduction in connection design time

All of us at American Metal are excited to see the positive impact of the Need for Speed program! Learn more about the initiative goal on the AISC website.
